PRODUCT REVIEW: Manitou MI25G Industrial Forklift

PRODUCT REVIEW: Manitou MI25G Industrial Forklift

With the recent release of its industrial forklift range, Manitou, famous for its all terrain machinery, has taken a leap into new territory. With over 50 years of experience Manitou through its Industrial Material Handling division has developed in their words “a perfect example of Manitou’s commitment to industrial markets”.

With its fluid design, short rear overhang, upswept exhaust and wide view mast arrangements it is clear that the designers have done their homework with regards to the appearance of the MI25G. The Manitou quality can be felt through the machine from the robust but not harsh plastics, solid switchgear, welded metal entry handle and quality paint finish. The practicality of the unit design is completed with an open foot well, offset panoramic rear vision mirror, good control lever positioning and standard rear headlight which is a mere option on other makes.

Power is derived from the proven Nissan K25 engine. It always feels like there is enough power to complete the task at hand. Combined with the Powershift transmission this makes for a great drive train designed to give a jerk free approach to your product handling. The MI25G gets off the mark well both loaded and unloaded. Braking is always controlled and confident without the need for heavy pedal pressures.  Added to this good engine and transmission mounts, noting also the generous under bonnet insulation and you have a great driving forklift with all the right NVH controls in place.

The standard 4500mm triple mast (container entry) being of a wide view design gives increased visibility through the centre, traditionally not found with this mast configuration. Continuing the theme the MI25G designers have included a clearview carriage which provides greater visibility, making all of your loading and unloading a breeze. The integral side shift rounds off the package with better retained capacity at height than the usual clip on type. The unit comes marked with 4000mm and 4500mm lift capacity ratings making it more practical in the workplace.

From the drivers seat the fluid design benefits becomes even more apparent as it adds greatly to the all round visibility when driving. With the standard suspension seat fully adjustable and adjustable steering column it is easy to get comfortable on this unit. The illuminated digital display on the dash is clear and easy to read. Nice touches like cup holder on the dash and clipboard on the bonnet just keep adding to the feeling of a well thought out quality design.

So it would appear that the designers at Manitou’s Industrial Materials Handling division have got the understanding of what is required to design and build a quality unit ready for today’s marketplace.
